This 38-year-old woman came to Dr. Haworth, a specialist of facial plastic surgery in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, to help reduce her facial wrinkles, discolorations and freckles. Though the full CO2 laser is still the gold standard in terms of obtaining the aforementioned goals, it has been supplanted by fractional CO2 laser treatment, a more gentle and versatile laser in terms of treating all skin types and all parts of the body. Instead of looking "ugly" for two weeks while one is healing from the laser treatment, the fractionated CO2 laser drops recovery times to the order of three or four days. Many fractionated lasers are on the market including the Fraxel Re:pair® and Pixel®, Dr. Haworth prefers the Encore® laser system with it's interchangeable heads (Active FX and DeepFX). One may dial the energy up with these fractionated lasers to mimic the effects of a full facial CO2 laser. However, the general rule of thumb is the longer the recovery, the more impressive is the end result. Four months follow photographs of the patients who received treatment by Dr. Haworth in the form of a full CO2 lasabrasion.
